Motorcycle Safety - Ten Top Tips

We all know that riding a bike carries a few more risks than sitting behind the wheel of a car, but by applying a few simple strategies, we can reduce that risk significantly. I'm not here to preach; you're going to do what you want anyway, and so you should. I'd just like you to do it safely.

BE VISIBLE

By wearing bright clothing and a light coloured helmet, the guy who is talking on his cell phone about last night's game, has a better chance of seeing you. If all car drivers were as vigilant as the average motorcycle rider, we wouldn't have to take these measures, but their not, and saying sorry just isn't enough. Always ride with your headlight on.

CRASH HELMET

We've already talked about the crash helmet, but it's such a crucial piece of kit that it deserves another mention. A white or silver helmet is favourite, but there's another aspect of the lid that's probably more important; the fit. An ill fitting helmet can cause an accident by distraction. If it's too small, it's going to be very uncomfortable, but if it's too big, you'll be forever pulling it back down onto your head or adjusting the strap that feels like it's going to decapitate you, when you should be watching the road.

SPEED

This probably should be number one. Excessive speed causes more motorcycle accidents than anything else. Apart from being downright unsociable, speed can not only be a sure-fire way of losing your licence, it can also empty your bank account, but I suppose having no money doesn't matter when you're dead.

YOUR BIKE

Hopefully, your motorcycle will have been maintained to a certain degree, but before you set out on a journey, whether it be long or short, check that your lights are working and the tyre pressures are what they should be. A visual check of the chain (if you have one) is also a good idea. If you're riding your own bike, you will notice if there are any unusual sounds coming from the machine. If there are, stop and investigate.

CLOTHING

As we said, bright clothing is better, but a yellow pair of shorts isn't exactly what I was thinking of. Anyone who has slid across the tarmac for more than two feet will tell you that your clothing needs to offer some protection. If you do come off your bike, the first thing you're going to do is reach out with your hands in order to protect your face, so wear a decent pair of gloves or forfeit your skin.

ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

I shouldn't really have to include this section, and the people who use the road under the influence of alcohol or drugs aren't going to listen to anyone anyway, but I'd just like to ask anyone who does, to let me know when they're going to be out and about, so that I can keep myself and my family off the road. No, no, no.

RIDING AN UNFAMILIAR BIKE

If you've just bought a new bike, or you've borrowed your mate's machine, take a little time to familiarise yourself with the handling before you get too carried away. Even bikes of the same make have their own little foibles and need to feel loved.

TIREDNESS

Tiredness is a definite killer, especially on a motorcycle when you need to be on the ball one hundred percent of the time. I know if you're on a long journey it's not easy to pull over to the side of the road and have forty winks, but it may be well worth stopping for a coffee.

RIDING WITH A PILLION

Riding with a pillion can turn your beautiful-handling machine into a monster, especially if you're not used to it. A pillion affects the balance, performance and handling of any bike, so be aware from the outset that there's someone behind you. Another thing to bear in mind is that your pillion doesn't need the living daylights scared out of them. Be courteous to your passenger.

ANTICIPATION

One of the most important weapons in your armoury is anticipation. Try to anticipate trouble before it happens. Ride as if you're invisible and expect cars to pull out in front of you, so that when they do you are mentally prepared and have adopted a good road position and speed to handle it.

If you fancy it, it may be a good idea to attend a training session or two. I know; I'm not your Dad, but I do want you to arrive safely. Safe riding.

New Honda Tiger 2000 Revo, Mudah dan Aplikatif

Meski dua lampu, penyetelan tetap sama.

LAMPU BELAKANG

Meski punya ukuran rumah sama, desain lampu belakang beda.

Namanya sprocket chain stopper.

Hindari Hal-hal Nyebelin Saat Hujan

Kadang, sampai ratusan bikers parkir. Hasilnya, jalan nyaris tertutup. Pengguna jalan pasti lah terganggu. “Memang semrawut deh. Mengganggu banget pengguna jalan lainnya,” terang Hari Wibowo, aktifis Transport Observation Traffic Obedience Research (Trotoar).

Seperti membawa perlengkapan hujan. Akibatnya, mereka berteduh di sembarang lokasi.

NGEBUT SAAT HUJAN RINTIK

Kebiasaan ini juga sering terlihat pada bikers. Saat mulai terasa bakal hujan. Naik
motornya langsung dikebut sejadi-jadinya. Maunay sih biar cepat ke tempat tujuan. Tapi akibatnya, naik motornya jadi serabutan. “Kalau ngebut enggak beraturan gitu.

JAS HUJAN PONCO

Model
jas hujan ponco atau one piece, bagusnya memang buat main batman-batmanan sama anak. Tapi buat naik motor, jangan deh.

Crrooottt! Basah, deh.

Aturan Pasang Ban Lebar

Pertama dilakukan pemilik motor sport untuk mengubah tampilan biasanya ganti ukuran tapak ban standar. Rata-rata 90/90-18 jadi selebar mungkin.

Biar nggak salah asuh, yuks tiru
trik Ardi Bridjal Hanafi alias Mas Boy, punggawa BMS (Boy Motor Sport) dan Nursaid pemilik bengkel MJ Motor khusus motor Bajaj. Mulai dari CB100 sampai New Tiger.

Marquisa VII, No. 4, Cimanggis, Depok.

Paling sip Bajaj Pulsar 200. Said bilang bisa adopsi ban lebar sampai 160. Sementara Pulsar 180 hanya mampu dipasok ban lebar 130. “Nah, kalau Bajaj XCD125 masalahnya
sama seperti Tiger. Ruang panel gir sempit sehingga cuma mampu diisi karet bundar 120,” tutup Said yang tinggal di Jl. Sultan Iskandarmuda, No. 8, Arteri Pondok Indah (Bungur II), Jakarta Selatan.

GIR CUSTOM
SOLUSI VARIAN HONDA

Kalau mau pasang ban lebar, pemilik motor sport Honda bisa pakai gir custom buatan Mas Boy. Mampu menggeser posisi mata gir belakang agak keluar.

Panduan Keselamatan Berkendara Ketika Berpindah Jalur Jalan

The Benefit of a Tune-Up

By Brenda Williams

Many drivers are not informed about the necessary and preventative care that should come with vehicle ownership. Did you know that a regular tune up helps to prevent the vehicle from rusting, increase gas mileage and keep your family safe? Regardless of how busy your life gets, it is crucial that we maintain good technique when taking care of our vehicles. For this reason, it is crucial that we develop good habits like regular oil changes and regular tune-ups for our vehicles.

How often should you get a tune up? Most vehicle experts recommend that a tune up be completed at least once a year. Of course, other times when the vehicle is given attention can shed light on problems, such as, when the vehicle is in for an oil change every 5,000 kilometers but a tune-up gives the vehicle mechanic a chance to examine the engine, the overall working of the vehicle, and, flush any fluids that are required to make the vehicle ride smooth and like new.

What exactly does a tune up cover when you take your vehicle into the shop? What does the mechanic look for? When you take your vehicle into the mechanic, he or she will have a look at the following aspects:

1. Fluids. When you take your vehicle into the mechanic for a tune up it is a chance to flush any fluids from the vehicle that are old and require changing. Did you know that old fluids become harmful to your vehicle and can cause the vehicle to run poorly? Many fluids in the vehicle run through the entire engine, isn't it time that we made sure that these fluids were safe? Changing these fluids will mean that the engine will run at full capacity, increasing fuel mileage and reducing emissions.

2. Battery. The mechanic will test the battery within the vehicle to ensure that it is running, and charging properly. Many vehicle experts take the time to examine the outside of the battery and clean the terminals in which the battery attaches to the vehicle. Cleaning and checking the battery can assist in creating a longer lifetime. If a new battery is required, this can be determined with proper testing. Most batteries are relatively cheap and can be easily changed at home, without the use of a mechanic. Having a battery that no longer holds its charge could mean becoming stranded on that cold winter day.

3. Wheels are an important part of the vehicle. Did you know that tires are an essential part of vehicle safety and the running of the vehicle? Tires range in price from low to high, depending on the type chosen for the vehicle.

4. Brakes are examined during routine vehicle tune-ups, as this component stops the vehicle from moving it is essential that they are in working order. Replacing parts of or the entire system is completed on an annual basis to ensure that the brakes are in good working order.

Now you are aware of all of the components which are checked when bringing the vehicle in for a tune up. Often, a report will be given about the state of the vehicle and what has been checked. Follow up on any concerns with the mechanic and ensure that a good check up of the vehicle has been completed.

How to Avoid the Accidents on the Road

By Jenny Carson

Most of us associate riding motorcycle with accidents. This is because of the risk one faces when he rides a motorcycle. Your body is exposed as opposed to your state when riding a four-wheeled vehicle. Aside from that, most drive their motorcycles really fast and this scares a lot of people.

However, driving this ride is not as dangerous as it looks. The drivers can take several precautionary measures to avoid accidents in the street. Here are some of the tips drivers can follow to ensure safety on the road while riding their motorcycle:

1. Proper training is important. Most people who encounter accidents are those who do not have proper training. Many people think that once they learn how to start the engine, balance the bike, and maneuver the wheels, they can already take on the road. It does not work that way. You have to know what you need to do in certain circumstances. Sporting your Harley Davidson boots will not do the trick. You have to know your limitations and the limitations of your ride.

2. Make sure that you are visible. The primary cause of accident is that other drivers cannot see the other drivers. To be visible, wear something bright. You can also use reflective materials. You have to be extra careful in the dark. It is better to assume that other drivers cannot see you so that you will be more cautious. Do not forget to use your headlight as well.

3. Wear the right gears especially your helmet. Many lives could have been saved if the riders only wore their helmets. It is also important that you are comfortable with what you are wearing. If you are comfortable, you will be able to focus on the road better because you will not worry about what your outfit.

4. Keep your distance. You have to allocate enough space for other motorists. Do not stay too close to the vehicle in front of you or the car behind you. Do the same when you are sharing the lane with another car.

5. Be careful when driving. Keep your eye on the road. Through this, you will have ample time to avoid possible problems with the road ahead. Communicate with other drivers as well by using the right signals. This includes your position on the lane and signal lights. This is also the reason why you need to have proper training when riding a motorcycle.

It is very important that you are very much awake when you are driving. That is why do not drink and attempt to drive. Alcohol can affect your responsiveness. The same is true with medicines that can make you sleepy.

Responsible driving is the key to avoiding accidents. You may look cool with your expensive shades and shiny Harley Davidson boots but people will not think so if you are not careful with your driving. To avoid accidents on the road, follow traffic rules properly. Do not risk your safety just because you want to show off your moves.

How to Stay Safe When Riding Your Motorcycle

By Jenny Carson

Motorcycle is one of the fastest ways to get to various places by land. It allows the driver to avoid the busy streets. He can also get pass vehicles by maneuvering his bike to desired position. However, riding motorcycles is also prone to a lot of risks. This is because the driver is more exposed as compared to someone who is driving a car.

You will be able to benefit from riding motorcycles if you are careful. Here are some of the safety tips you can follow when riding your bike:

1. Dress for the ride. You need to have the right outfit when you are going to ride your big bike. The most important is the helmet. This piece of gear has saved a lot of lives so you cannot underestimate its importance. You will also need a nice pair of gloves to be able to maintain a nice grip. A pair of Harley Davidson boots will also keep you feet protected as you cruise the road. Make sure you wear comfortable jackets as well. Waterproof jackets will help protect you from your surroundings as you ride.

2. Check your bike before you drive especially if you are going to travel a long distance trip. This will ensure that your bike is in good condition. Aside from keeping it clean and shiny, check the tires the breaks and the bike in general.

3. Avoid riding at night because of vision issues. This is one of the major causes of accidents on the road. Drivers fail to react properly because they were not able to see what is coming. If you have to ride at night, make sure that you do not race with other riders. Follow your own pace and make sure that you can see the road ahead. Turn your headlights on but be sensitive to the other drivers. Make sure your light is not too bright.

4. Deal with slippery roads properly. Drive your motorcycle at a moderate speed. Keep in mind that any type of vehicle is difficult to control when the road is slippery.

5. Maintain a cool head when driving. This will save your life. Consider other drivers. Wait for the traffic light to turn green and do not race every time you see a chance.

There are a lot of dangers in the streets. Drive safely. Make sure that you dress for the ride. Aside from the helmet, make sure that your outfit is comfortable. Keep the weather condition in mind as well. Leather jackets will not be enough during the winter season. Wear your Harley Davidson boots as well. You want to protect your feet properly when you drive.

You will be safe if you maintain a good attitude on the road. You will be able to enjoy the road more as well. Riding big bikes are cool. However, it can also cause you your life if you are not careful. Be certain to think of safety first. It will be more fun that way.

How to Prepare For a Motorcycle Trip

By Jenny Carson

Many love to use their motorcycle during long distance trips because it is fast and hassle-free. Although this is the case, it does not mean that you do not need to prepare. Keep in mind that you are traveling with limited items and the risks involved is greater.

Preparation is very important in any trip and taking your motorcycle is not an excuse. Aside from your leather jacket and Harley Davidson boots, here are some of the other things you need to remember:

1. The most important thing when going on a trip is to know where you are going. Find out how long it will take, what type of road you are going to deal with, and what kind of environment the road has. Be sure to know where to stop for food, drink, and gas.

2. Make sure that you and your motorcycle can handle the trip. If it is your first time to take that road, be sure that your friends or family knows where you are going. It would also be better if you travel with a fellow biker who has been in that road before. He will give you an estimate of how long the trip will take. He will also give you an assessment if your ride can handle the road.

3. Be sure to check your big bike before hitting the road. Check the engine, tires, clutch breaks, the gas, needed fluids, and everything about the motorcycle. It has to be in top shape to endure the long trip. Make sure you have a full tank. Take note of where you can stop for gas during the trip.

4. Prepare needed items as well. Even if you have checked your motorcycle before leaving, you still need to bring the necessary tools to make minor repairs. There is always a possibility for something to go wrong while you are on the road. Aside from that, bring a first aid kit as well. It is also important that you have water and food. Do not forget to bring your mobile phone too with extra batteries. You never know when you will need to call for help.

5. You have to prepare yourself as well. It is not enough that your motorcycle is in top condition. You have to be in top shape as well. Make sure that you had enough rest before the trip. You do not want to be sleepy while riding. Make sure that you eat high-energy food to keep you going. Remember to dress for the trip as well. Wear comfortable jeans, waterproof jacket, gloves, shades, Harley Davidson boots, and most importantly your helmet.

The most important thing when travelling long distance trips is to be safe. In order to achieve that, you have to prepare yourself and your motorcycle. It is also important that you bring items that you will need in case anything bad will happen. You do not want anything to go wrong but you have to be ready for it just in case.

Five Things You Should Wear When Motorcycling

By Jenny Carson

Motorcycling is one of the best ways to get from one point to another. It is fast and hassle-free. One can cruise around without worrying too much about the traffic. They can easily get pass the vehicles and get to where they want to be. However, there are also those who fear motorcycles. This is because of the threats on the road.

Since there are threats on the road, motorcycle riders have to protect themselves. This is what makes the gears very important. If you want to enjoy more rides, you have to be responsible whenever you ride your motorcycle. Here are some of the gears you need to note if ever you plan to ride:

Boots

Your boots are no ordinary footwear. As a matter of fact, experienced riders only trust names such the Harley Davidson motorcycle boots. It is important to use good pair of boots because you need a pair of shoes that you can count on when you are riding your big bike. It should be comfortable so that you will not feel tired during the trip. Most importantly, it has to protect your feet if ever you encounter an accident.

Gloves

You need to have a nice grip on the handles. Although some do not pay much attention to wearing gloves, a pair of this can give you a more comfortable grip. Keep in mind that both of your hands are on the handle for the most of your trip. If you do not have gloves while controlling it, you will surely end up with blisters on your palms. If you do not mind them, do not be surprise to have blisters on your palm.

Jackets

You are maybe one of the many people who thought that jackets are just fashion statements for bikers but they are not. However, it pays to look for a stylish jacket to go with the big bike. It is a necessary piece when dressing up for a motorcycle trip. This is why you will see many riders wearing jackets even if the sun is up. The gear protects their skin from the heat of the sun. This will also protect their skin from scratches if there is a crash.

Jeans

Jeans are just regular wear for most, but for riders, these are valuable piece of fabrics. Just like the previous gears, this has to be comfortable so that the rider can move with ease. They need something that will cover their feet entirely to protect it from the environment and again protect their skin from scratches or burns if there is a crash.

Helmets

This is probably the most important item one needs when he is going to go for a motorcycle ride. This will protect his head and will keep him secure.

You should not be surprise if motorcycle riders invest on their motorcycle gears and outfits. Fashion is the least in their minds. The Harley Davidson motorcycle boots may look good but riders choose them because they know that it can protect their feet and ankle as they ride.

How to Take Care of Your Motorcycle

By Jenny Carson

It is important to care for your motorcycle. If you care for it, you will surely enjoy riding it for a long time. You have to maintain the condition of your bike regularly to be certain that you can rely on it anytime you want to go for a ride.

Before you can start taking care of your bike, you have to identify its type. This way, you will be able to understand its needs. There are several types of motorcycles just like there are several types of Harley Davidson motorcycle boots. You will not be able to find the right stuff, if you do not know what you are looking for.

Cruiser

If you are very familiar with your bike, you can disintegrate the parts and clean every detail of the machine. However, if you are not comfortable you can just wash the visible areas.

If you own a cruiser, you have to learn the proper way to clean it. This type of bike is the most difficult to clean. The first thing you need is a handful of soft towel. The coatings of your cruiser is soft, thus it needs softer towels. Although it can resist harsh weather conditions, using rough fabrics to clean it will scratch the coatings. You will also need brushes for certain portion of the bike. If you have a lifter for the motorcycle, it will make your job easier.

Before thorough washing, rinse the bike with water to wash the dirt away. After that, removing the remaining dirt will be easier.

Dirt Bikes

If you own this type of bike, it is important that you take note of what you can do to prevent damage on your bike. Instead of rebuilding and replacing some parts, use preventive grease. Use transmission oils and clean your motorcycle regularly. You will save more by investing in these preventive measures.

Since this type of bike takes most of the abuse, you should check it regularly for damage. Repair them right away as well. Clean it every after use. The grips and levers are the most vulnerable to damage. This is why you have to give it preferential attention. Check the tires as well, replace worn tires to prevent accidents caused by unreliable traction.

Superbikes

Many love having this type of motor because of speed. Since this is the case, it is important that the rider ensure the good condition of its motor. He has to change the fluid properly as well. Most importantly, he has to make sure that the tires are always in good shape.

In any bike, it is important to check all key parts even if it is not in use for a while. Make sure that you drain the fuel if you are going to store it for more than a month. Check the batteries especially during the winter.

Looking good does not only rely on your motorcycle accessories. Your Harley Davidson motorcycle boots will not be as attractive if you bike is not clean. It would not feel comfortable as well if you were having a bad day on the road.

2. Sedangkan Bapak Aam sendiri menamakan club yang dipimpinnya Jakarta Honda Tiger Club 1996 dengan merangkul rekan – rekannya seperti Bapak Asep, Bapak Ichsan, Bapak Ronald, Bapak Apit dengan secretariat di Jl. Tunjung Raya No.20

Walaupun hanya tertinggal beberapa orang tetapi tetap semangat membangun kembali JHTC 1996.

* 2006 Mudik bareng Telkomsel.
* Maret, 2007 Touring pelantikan angkatan maret.
* April, 2007 Touring 500 km.
* April, 2007 Rally Wisata, Piala Menpora.
* April, 2007 Polantas-Honda Safety Riding Rally.
